Mark Dewey not only made his mark on the Grand Valley baseball field, but in the radio booth as well, where he did color commentary for GVSU's football and basketball broadcasts as a student from 1984-87 and after graduation as well. At the time of his induction, Dewey holds 17 GVSU game, season, and career pitching records, including complete games, innings pitched, and strikeouts. He became the first Laker to no-hit a Division I school when he pitched a 3-1 victory over Butler in 1987. While at Grand Valley, Dewey played on three Great Lakes Conference championship teams and one NCAA Regional squad.
He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants' minor league system before moving up to the parent club in 1990.
He spent the 1991 and 1992 seasons with the New York Mets and joined the Pittsburg Pirates for the 1993 and '94 campaigns before rejoining the Giants in 1995.
