Melissa Sneller was a four-year standout for the Lakers on the golf course and is the first-ever women's golfer to be inducted into the Grand Valley State Athletic Hall of Fame. A two-time First-Team National Golf Coaches Association All-American, Sneller recorded 31 top finishes, 22 top five finishes and earned medalist honors nine times during her storied career. Sneller always performed at the highest level on the biggest stage, evidenced by her winning two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crowns, an NCAA East Regional crown and the 2005 NCAA Division II Individual National Championship with a four-round score of 292. Sneller captured top honors in each of the final three collegiate tournaments in which she played (GLIAC Championships, NCAA East Regional, NCAA Championships) and was twice named the GLIAC Women's Golfer of the Year. In addition to her individual exploits, Sneller led the GVSU women's team new heights. GVSU captured three GLIAC team titles, won an NCAA East Regional crown and led the Lakers to a second-place team finish at the 2005 NCAA Chmapionships.
