Dick Hodson, better known as Dick "Nelson" on radio and TV broadcasts, has been "Voice of the Lakers" for over a decade handling play-by-play in football and basketball for Grand Valley State University. He also promoted GVSU local and regional athletics for seven years with his weekly TV shows, Sportsweek and Press Pass, aired on WGVU--TV.
Dick is a well-known media personality in the Grand Rapids area. He served as Sports Director at WZZM-TV for two years following five years as Sports Director and night disc jockey at WJEF Radio in Grand Rapids, and announced Grand Rapids Tackers basketball games. Dick began his career in radio at KCBL in Colville, Washington, and KDRO in Sadalia, Missouri.
A native of Chicago, Dick worked for the Chicago Cubs for three years where he served as a visiting team bat boy in his younger days.
Dick and his wife, Laurie, live in Grand Rapids. They have a son, Rick and four daughters, Lauri, Joni, Vicki and Mary and three grandchildren.
