The Grand Valley State women's volleyball program was among the most successful in DII during the last decade and former standout Chara Fehsenfeld was at the cornerstone of the Lakers' success. Fehsenfeld led the Lakers to a combined record of 119-19 during her career with three GLIAC titles, three NCAA Tournament appearances, two trips to the NCAA DII Final Four and three trips to the elite eight. Chara was an all around performer for GVSU, evidenced by her career totals in kills with 1,140, digs with 1,498 and blocks with 150. In addition, Fehsenfeld chipped in 170 assists and 119 service aces during her four-year career. Known as one of the hardest workers on the court, Chara was also a standout in classroom, A four-time Academic All-Gliac selection, Fehsenfeld was a two-time (2000-2002) Academic All-America honoree. Chara was a two-time All GLIAC performer and was named to the AVCAA All-Midwest Region team twice. Fehsenfeld, who played in 138 matches for the Lakers, ranks third in career digs (1,498) and fourth in career digs per game (3.14).
