Hall of Fame
Jim Scott enters the Hall of Fame as one of the Lakers' top all-time coaches. As head coach of the wrestling team for 22 years, Scott brought the GVSU program to national prominence.
Scott's career dual match record was 141-91 (.608). His squads faced challenging schedules that included GLIAC opponents, plus teams for the Mid-American Conference and the Big Ten.
He coached his wrestlers to 52 individual All-American awards. Rich Vaughn was GVSU's first All-American in any sport in 1972.
Scott coached seven national championships in the NAIA and NCAA Division II. Twice the Lakers finished second in the nation in the NAIA, and three wrestlers earned All-American status in NCAA Division I. He guided GVSU to seven GLIAC Titles. Grand Valley earned six straight Top 5 finishes at the National Tournament in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Scott's active involvement in wrestling at all levels allowed GVSU to host the U.S. Olympic Trials in 1984. Scott was inducted into the Michigan Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1992.
