?Joe Brunink turned in a stellar three-year career for Grand Valley State on the baseball diamond that culminated with him being drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 15th round of the 2003 Major League Baseball amateur draft. Brunink, a first baseman, was a key contributor in the building of the GVSU baseball program that became one of the best in the Midwest and competed nationally. Despite playing just three years for the Lakers, Brunink concluded his career ranking in the top 20 of both 18 career and single-season categories. Joe recorded a .373 career batting average with 168 hits, 118 runs scored, 31 doubles, 17 home runs, 10 triples, 120 RBI and 35 stolen bases. Brunink was a two-time All-GLIAC selection, earned ABCA All-Region honors and was the NCAA Midwest Region MVP in 2003. Grand Valley State was 105-49 during his career with two NCAA DII Midwest Regional appearances and the programs first-ever NCAA DII World Series berth in 2003.
