Barb Hansen was a two-sport standout for the Lakers, making her mark on the hardwood as a member women's basketball team and as a member of the field hockey team. Hansen was a key figure in a unprecedented four-year stretch in Laker women's basketball history. GVSU was 85-29 during her career (1976-79), including a mark of 43-4 in GLIAC action. Hansen led the Lakers to four GLIAC Championships, four trips to the State of Michigan Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women State Tournaments, two  SMAIAW State Championships and four trips to the Midwest Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Regional Tournaments. Hansen averaged 9.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per game as a senior en route to earning All-GLIAC and All-MAIAW honors. She was the first-ever recipient of the GLIAC Player of the Week award following a 24-point outing versus Western Michigan. Following her collegiate career, Hansen played basketball professionally in the Women's Basketball League for the San Francisco Pioneers.
