Villemure led the GVSU baskeball program as head coach for 24 years. During his career he compiled a record of 418-262 (.615). Villemure, Grand Valley's all-time winningest coach, led the Lakers to five GLIAC titles and seven second place finishes. In addition, Villemure led the Lakers to two GLIAC Tournament titles during his tenure. Tom led the 1976-77 team to the best record in school history (30-4) and an undefeated run through the GLIAC schedule. Grand Valley State advanced to three NCAA Divison II tournaments and three NAIA national tournaments during his career.
