Karrie Williams remains one of GVSU's greatest all-time women's basketball players. She played for GVSU from 1986 though 1990 and was named Third Team All-American by the American Women's Sports Foundation (AWSF) in 1988-89 and 1989-90. She finished her Grand Valley career ranked 5th in scoring (1,283 points) and 3rd in rebounding (925 boards). Williams was a key reason GVSU won the GLIAC title in 1987-88 and reached the NCAA Division II National Tournament in 1987-88 and 1989-90. She led the Lakers in scoring twice, averaging 17.2 points per game in 1988-89, then producing 15.2 points per game in 1989-90. She was GVSU's leading rebounder her last three seasons, including 11.3 rebounds per game as a senior. She is GVSU's record holder for rebounds in a game (24) and steals in a game (9). An All-GLIAC performer, Williams went on to play professional basketball in Europe.
