Ron Polus had an outstanding career on the GVSU men's basketball team. He played at Grand Valley from 1981 through 1985, and helped the Lakers reach the NCAA Division II National Tournament in 1984-85. He was named Honorable Mention All-American as a senior, when he averaged 17.7 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, while helping the Lakers earn a 21-8 record.Â
  Polus continues to hold several GVSU records, which he established over a decade ago. He remains the leader of blocked shots in a game (10), blocked shots in a season (68), and blocked shots in a career (192). He ranks 13th in career scoring, with 1,300 points and is 9th in career rebounding, with 668 boards. He was an All-GLIAC selection in 1984-85, helping the Lakers achieve a 14-2 mark in conference play. GVSU took second place, finishing just one game behind Saginaw Valley (15-1), while holding a six-game lead over a pair of teams tied for third place.Â
