Hall of Fame
Steve Lyon accomplished something in college baseball that no one thought was possible - turn a northern program into a national baseball power. Lyon concluded his career at the helm as the most prolific baseball coach in Laker history and he put up unmatched numbers in team success. During his 14 year career Grand Valley State was 552-205-2, including a 296-110-2 GLIAC record. Lyon would guide the Lakers to nine GLIAC Championships and a 26-3 GLIAC Tournament record. In addition, the Lakers advanced to the NCAA tournament 11 consecutive years, captured five NCAA Great Lakes Regional titles and appeared in the World Series five times. GVSU played in the 2004 National Championship game and finished third at the World Series in 2005. Lyon was named GLIAC Coach of the Year three times and the ABCA Regional Coach of the Year five times. The Lakers won 40 or more games seven times and turned in one of the best single-seasons in college baseball history when they finished 52-5, including a 32-game winning streak, in 2011.
