Robert "Corky" Meinecke was an outstanding sports writer for the Lanthorn from 1973 to 1977. In addition to covering Grand Valley sports for the Lanthorn, Meinecke also lent his talents to the sports information office during his undergraduate years. Corky then became a popular sportswriter for the Grand Rapids Press, Detroit News and Detroit Free Press following his graduation from Grand Valley State.
Among his many talents, Meinecke's insights into the world of professional basketball won him a large readership as he covered the Detroit Pistons during their glory years of the late 1980's and into this decade. Corky lost a long and courageous battle with cancer in 1997, but left his mark on many and will always be remembered.
