Mike McFadden was not only one of the greatest to ever play for Grand Valley State, but he will go down as one of the top defensive linemen in Division II history. McFadden concluded his career as the only player to be named the Gene Upshaw Award winner in back-to-back years (2005-2006) as the nation’s top interior lineman. He was a two-time consensus All-American in 2005 and 2006, while also being a three-time First-Team All-GLIAC honoree and a two-time GLIAC Defensive Lineman of the Year. McFadden tallied 230 career tackles, 55 tackles for loss and 31 QB sacks during his career, ranking first in career tackles for loss yards (-267) and second in career QB sack yards (209). He turned in one of the top all-time single-season campaigns in 2005 with 83 tackles, 21.0 TFL (-110) and 16.0 QB sacks (-102). Grand Valley State was 52-4 overall and 36-3 in GLIAC action during his career, including three GLIAC Championships, three NCAA DII National Championships (2003, 2005, 2006) and a 28-game unbeaten streak to end his career.
