Curt Anes turned in an incredible four-year career for the Lakers on the gridiron, leading the Grand Valley State football program to new heights with him under center. Anes concluded his career atop every offensive single-season and career passing and total offense category and led the Lakers to the school's first-ever team National Championship (2002). He completed 753-of-1,203 passes for 10,768 yards and 115 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,351 yards and 17 TDs on 348 carries. Anes was the first player in DII history to pass for more than 10,000 yards and rush for over 1,200 yards in a career. In addition, he also turned in two of the greatest back-to-back single-season campaigns in DII football history. He completed 201-of-288 (69.8%) passes for 3,273 yards and 49 touchdowns as a junior in 2001. His 219.3 pass efficiency rating as a junior is the second-best, single-season mark in college football history regardless of division. As a senior, Anes passed for 3,692 yards and 47 TDs, while leading the Lakers to the National Championship. Anes, who was a concensus first-team all-american as a junior and senior, won the 2002 Harlon Hill Award as the Division II Player of the year.
