Mark earned GLIAC and NAIA District 23 MVP honors during the 1979-80 campaign. Cheklich led the Lakers in scoring and rebounding during his senior season, averaging 16.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He also led the team in rebounding (266) in his junior season. Mark ranks 16th on GVSU’s all-time rebounding list with 532 caroms and holds the Grand Valley State record for field goal percentage by connecting on 61.6 percent of his shots. Cheklich was a two-time NAIA Academic All-American, while also being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American squad.
