One of just three Division II players to ever score 100 goals and tally 40 assists in her career, Katy Tafler helped the GVSU soccer program reach unforeseen heights. Katy scored 114 goals and amassed 269 total points, both of which are the third-highest figures in Division II history. She is the only Laker soccer player to be named the Daktronics National Player of the Year; Katy did that twice, in both 2006 and 2007. Tafler is also the only GVSU player to earn the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year award more than once, an accomplishment she reached in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Also the Midwest Region Player of the Year each of her final three seasons, Katy was the first Laker to make the NSCAA All-America First Team, finishing as a three-time All-American by both the NSCAA and Daktronics. In 90 career games, Tafler scored a goal in 64 contests, including 34 multi-goal efforts, and 11 games of at least three goals. During all four seasons of her career, Katy was an All-GLIAC First Team selection, an NSCAA All-Midwest Region First Team honoree, and the team leader in goals and points. She led all of Division II in goals per game and points per game in 2006 and 2007, with her 36 goals and 85 points in 2007 ranking as the sixth-highest in Division II history. GVSU was 81-7-2 during Tafler’s career, advanced to at least the regional championship game all four seasons, and made the program’s first-ever trips to the Elite Eight, Final Four, and National Championship games.
