The first Division II libero to ever be named an AVCA First Team All-American was GVSU’s own Allyson Riley in 2006. She is the only player in conference history to win the GLIAC Libero of the Year award three times, accomplishing the feat in 2005, 2006, and 2007. Allyson is the GLIAC all-time leader with 2,488 career digs, while only one other player in league history has even totaled 2,000 digs. When Riley graduated, her 713 digs in 2005 and 686 pickups in 2007 were the top two single season marks in GLIAC history and have been eclipsed just once ever since. Allyson was also a Second Team All-American in 2007, making her just one of six Lakers to collect multiple All-America certificates. A member of the 2005 NCAA Elite Eight All-Tournament Team, Riley picked up a match-high 28 digs as GVSU defeated #1 Nebraska-Kearney and won the 2005 Division II National Championship, the first GVSU national title won by a woman’s sport. She is first, second, and third in the Grand Valley State single season rankings in both digs and digs per set. During Allyson’s career, the Lakers owned a 119-21 record with a pair of Great Lakes Regional Championships. She served up 188 career aces (eighth-most in school history) and her 75 service aces in 2006 are the most by any Laker since 2003. A three-time All-Midwest Region selection and a three-time All-GLIAC honoree, Allyson was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team four times.
