Hall of Fame
One of the better low-post players in Laker history, Julia Braseth finished her storied career ranked in the Grand Valley State top-10 in both scoring and rebounding. She scored 1,316 points and pulled down 702 rebounds over her career, placing her eighth and ninth, respectively, in GVSU history. Julia is just the fifth Grand Valley State player to top the 1,300-point mark and the 700-rebound plateau in a career. During the historic 2005-06 season, she averaged over 11 points and six rebounds per game and started in 35 of the team’s 36 contests. Grand Valley State won the final 22 games of the 2005-06 season, including a 58-52 victory over American International to clinch the Division II National Championship, in which Braseth posted a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double and played all 40 minutes. Named to the All-GLIAC Team three times, Julia averaged 13.3 points per game and led the Lakers with a 51.7 field goal percentage in 2006-07, as she was voted to the All-GLIAC First Team and the GLIAC All-Defensive Team. For her career, Braseth’s 51.5 field goal percentage is good for sixth-best in school history, while she also made 315 free throws, tying her for seventh place. Julia was extremely durable, starting in 113 of 119 games, the sixth-most games ever played by a Laker. Grand Valley State went 93-32 during Braseth’s career, including a pair of GLIAC Tournament titles, two Great Lakes Region championships, and the first two Elite Eight berths in program history.
