Dave DiIanni laid the foundation for the greatest NCAA DII women’s soccer program in the history of the sport. He began his career at Grand Valley State in 2003 and when he finished in 2013, he tallied an overall record of 221-18-18 with three NCAA DII National Championships, eight NCAA Regional Championships, seven final four appearances, 11 NCAA Tournament berths, nine GLIAC titles and seven GLIAC Tournament titles. He also tallied a GLIAC record of 111-6-6. DiIanni was named the GLIAC Coach of the Year five times and the National Coach of the Year three times. GVSU was 118-4-4 in 126 home games on the pitch under his mentorship. During his tenure as head coach, he developed 88 players that earned All-GLIAC honors, including seven that were named the GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year and eight that were named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year. In addition, 50 players earned All-Region honors and 34 earned All-America plaudits.
