Katie Flynn Flannery will go down as one of Grand Valley State University's finest student-athletes. Katie was a true student-athlete and garnered numerous honors in the pool and the classroom. In addition to earning 15 All-American awards, Katie was Grand Valley State's first-ever recipient of an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship award. Flynn Flannery was also nominated as the 1997 NCAA Woman of the Year in Michigan. Katie was 61-12 in dual meet competition and set 28 individual records during her four-year career. In addition, she was a part of seven relay school records. She finished fifth in the 100 free at the 1996 and 1997 National Championships and sixth in the 50 free in 1997. Flynn Flannery was a four-time recipient of College Swim Coaches Association Academic All America Award and was named to the GLIAC All-Academic Team four times. She was a second-team GTE/CoSIDA All-District honoree, was on the Deans List for six semesters, and earned the GVSU Academic Excellence Award eight times.
