ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State men's and women's track and field teams concluded an exciting two-day Snowdown Showdown meet on Saturday (Feb. 6). GVSU collected multiple NCAA Division II qualifying standards and broke three records.

Lindsey Strutz made her long-awaited debut in the pentathlon and did not disappoint. The freshman topped the GVSU record book with a final score of 3329, good for first place and a provisional mark.Â
Corrina Courser finished second in the 60 hurdles, just .02 seconds away from a provisional mark (8.81). Yet again, senior
Nicole Sreenan swept the 60m competition, tying her own school record with a blazing 7.41 second automatic finish.Â

Freshman
Taryn Chapko finished first in the 800m with a provisional finish of 2:12.22. Â In the mile,
Klaudia O'Malley (4:49.03) and
Olivia Brian (4:51.88) posted a 1-2 provisional finish.Â
Hannah Roeske (3
rd; 9:32.16) and
Jessica Gockley (4
th; 9:45.02) earned provisional qualifications in the 3,000m.Â

After posting three provisional qualifications, senior
Elli Kimes officially punched her ticket to DII Nationals with a second-place automatic clear of 4.16m, just .5m shy of her personal best.Â
Judith Essemiah earned another provisional mark in the weight throw with a first-place toss of 19.33m, while junior
Anna Obi finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 11.42m.Â

The women's 4x400m relay team of
Jessica Eby,
Marcedes Chandler, Chapko and Sreenan met a provisional time with a first-place 3:44.76 finish.Â

In the fast lane, the men were led by
Makiyah Smallwood (1
st; 8.10) and
Jackson Blanchard (3
rd; 8.15) with provisional marks in the 60 hurdles. Â Junior
Jackson Blanchard finished third in the 200m with a time of 22.00. The men's 4x400m relay of
Jaylen Hasan,
Jalen Kyles,
Brenden Faulkner and
Alexander Porter posted a come-from-behind win with a 3:16.45 finish.Â

The freshmen duo of
Scott Spaanstra (1:51.86) and
Steven St. John (1:52.32) finished first and second, respectively, in the 800m with provisional qualifications.Â
Connor Schwartz defeated the men's mile field with a provisional time of 4:10.37, just .4 seconds off of his personal best. Senior transfer
Isaac Harding continues to make his name known in the record books as he defeated the 3,000m competition in 7:53.77, breaking the school and Kelly Family Sports Center Turf records. Junior
Tanner Chada paced the entirety of the race alongside Harding, earning an automatic qualification with a fourth-place time of 7:56.09.Â

Sophomore
Max Rauch took first place in the pole vault with a clear of 4.56m, while
Elijah Kosiba finished third in the high jump with a provisional height of 2.06m. For the third consecutive meet,
Leon White (4
th; 18.64) and
Hunter Harding (3
rd; 19.92) collected provisional marks in the weight throw.Â

The Lakers return home next weekend for the annual two-day Big Meet (Feb. 12-13).Â
