ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State track and field teams concluded home action in the GVSU Extra Weekend Meet on Saturday. A handful of distance top-10 times and throws distances were met, as well as a new record in the women's hammer throw by
Judith Essemiah (64.21m).Â

The women's 5,000m saw
Klaudia O'Malley (6
th; 16:17.68),
Hannah Roeske (7
th; 16:20.29) and
Jessica Gockley (9
th; 16:20.91) all collect new personal bests and top program marks. Senior
Allie Ludge punched her ticket to the outdoor National Championships in the 1,500m with a second-place time of 4:23.37. In the 800m, freshman
Taryn Chapko collected a third-place finish of 2:13.11.Â
Asia Smith clocked in at 26.37 seconds in the 200m, earning fourth place.

In the discus,
Emma Richards (51.04m) and
Elizabeth Pyles (46.87m) earned the program's third and 10
th best spots, respectively, while
Judith Essemiah swept the competition with her record-breaking hammer throw launch. Erica Lechner hit 13.05m in the shot put, good for fifth place, and senior
Elli Kimes cleared 4.19m in the pole vault.Â

The men's 5,000m followed the women's example and placed three new program top-10 times, including
Isaac Harding (13:43.97),
Enael Woldemichael (13:47.08) and
Tanner Chada (13:47.99) in spots 2-4. Also earning program best performances were
Caleb Futter (3
rd; 9:00.04) and
Connor Schwartz (5
th; 9:01.38) in the 3,000m steeplechase. Freshman
Scott Spaanstra recorded the eighth-best 800m with a second-place finish of 1:50.64.Â

In the discus throw,
Justin Scavarda swept the field with a 53.90m toss, while
Myles Kerner finished fourth with a 51.30m distance. Kerner also picked up the program's No. 5 mark in the shot put with a second-place throw of 18.17m.Â
Chanse Setzke (6.54m) and
Sam Ludka (1.81m) swept the long jump and high jump, respectively.Â

GVSU takes action next week (May 5-7) in the GLIAC Outdoor Championships hosted by Davenport. The 2019 season saw the Lakers sweep the Championships for the third consecutive year.Â
