EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The #47 ranked Grand Valley State women's tennis team dominated the Screaming Eagles of Southern Indy as they took a 9-0 victory on Friday afternoon. The Lakers now sport an 18-6 record as their season starts to wind down with only four matches left before post-season play begins.
GVSU was able to win all three doubles matches to take the 3-0 lead into singles play. The duo of
Abby Perkins and
Livia Christman got the first win of the day as they defeated Alex Jamison and Jennifer Mizikar by a score of 8-4. Putting the Lakers up 2-0 was the pair of
Aimee Moccia and
Alexa Sweeney as they earned an 8-5 victory over Lauren Hambrock and Kymberly Brannon. Maddison Ballard and
Rachel Sumner finished the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win over their opponents and secure the 3-0 doubles sweep.
Out of the No. 1 spot in singles play, Sweeney defeated Kelsey Shipman in a very close 6-2, 5-7, 11-9 match. Moccia earned a slightly easier victory out of the No. 2 spot as she took down her Southern Indy opponent by a score of 6-1, 6-4. Christman took the victory at the No. 3 position as she took a 6-0, 6-3 win over Brenna Wu. Also earning victories was Sam Schrepferman (6-4, 6-3),
Nicole Heiniger (6-3, 6-2), and Sumner (6-1, 6-2).
GVSU will be back in action on Saturday (3/25) in Indianapolis, Ind. as they are set to meet the Greyhounds of Indianapolis.
