Game NotesThe Grand Valley State men's basketball team plays its second non-conference game in four days, when the Lakers take on Grace Bible in a 7:00 p.m. start on Monday night (Nov. 23). GVSU looks to stay unbeaten to start the 2015-16 season, playing the Tigers just four days after scoring 105 points in a blowout victory over Olivet.
The Lakers continue their seven-game homestand to open the season with a non-league game against Grace Bible, a team from the NCCAA Division II (National Christian College Athletic Association) that has been to the NCCAA Final Four each of the last two years. Grace Bible captured the NCCAA National Championship in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012. The Tigers come to Allendale on Monday with a 6-3 overall record.
GVSU is off to a great start this season, as the Lakers have posted a 3-0 mark. All three victories have come at home for Grand Valley State, which has topped Quincy (76-67), Missouri-St. Louis (63-57), and Olivet (105-57). The latest victory - a 48-point rout of Olivet on Friday night (Nov. 20) - was something Grand Valley State had not done in quite some time.
With 105 points against Olivet, the Lakers had not reached that point total since a 105-62 victory over Michigan-Dearborn on Jan. 13, 2003. The last time GVSU cracked the 100-point mark was against Tiffin on Dec. 4, 2010 in a 101-76 home victory.
Offensively for Grand Valley State, five players reached double-digits and eight players scored at least eight points.
Luke Ryskamp led all players with 17 points, while
Ricardo Carbajal and

Juwan Starks (12 points) and
Sam McClendon (11 points) also posted double figures.Â
Speaking of the bench, the Laker reserves notched 63 points, six more than Olivet's entire team total of 57. A dozen different Lakers scored, helping GVSU to a 54-10 edge in points in the paint. Grand Valley State also dominated the glass, 47-31, and scored 30 points off of 23 Comet turnovers.
It is the fifth time in head coach
Ric Wesley's 12 years at GVSU that the Lakers have started the season with a 3-0 record.
Grand Valley State owns a 5-0 record all-time against Grace Bible, with the latest meeting being an 85-71 victory on Dec. 21, 2013 over the Tigers in Allendale.
Grace Bible won a pair of games on Friday and Saturday, with a 72-67 victory over Faith Baptist in Ankeny, Iowa. The Tigers also played a game at Division I Coastal Carolina (falling 104-67) and dropped a 109-54 decision to nearby Davenport.
After Monday's game, the Lakers will be back at home again on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 28) against Salem International. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., as it will close the month of November for Grand Valley State. The Lakers will begin GLIAC play on Dec. 3-5 against Ashland and Lake Erie, respectively, to cap off the team's seven-game homestand.
