Grand Valley State Concludes Warhawk-Panther Invite

WHITEWATER, Wisc. – After the conclusion of the 2014 Warhawk-Panther Invitational, the Grand Valley State women's tennis team came away with several players advancing to the championship of their respective Flights.
 
In the Singles 4 Flight, Rachel Sumner won her opening match over Natalie Grieve of Cardinal Stritch (6-3, 6-3), and then won her semifinal match against Nicole Jones of Western Illinois (8-2). The freshman advanced to the final against Wisconsin-Whitewater's Alexandra Talyansky, but fell to her opponent 8-3, claiming second place.
 
Meanwhile, in the Singles Flight 5, Courtney Lang won her opening match (6-2, 7-6, 7-4) to advance to the semifinals, then the freshman defeated Jitsupa Sirinit of Cardinal Stritch (7-5, 6-2) to move on to the finals of the Flight. In the championship match, Lang was victorious over Jillian Wallace of Wisconsin-Whitewater (6-3, 6-2).
 
In doubles action, Lang and Sumner teamed up in Flight 2. In their first match, they were victorious against their opponent from Cardinal Stiritch (8-2), and then took down their opponents from Hope Flying Dutch in the semifinal (8-7, 8-6). Against Hayley Marshall/Mardee Merar of Wisconsin-Whitewater, the Laker duo fell in the championship (8-4) to close out the Invitational for Grand Valley State.
