ALLENDALE - The Grand Valley State women's tennis team punched their ticket to the NCAA Division II National Championships after defeating Davenport 4-0 Saturday (May 9) afternoon. GVSU improves to 18-1 on the season and will travel to Surprise, Arizona for the sweet 16 round at the NCAA National Championships.
The Lakers claimed the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and and No. 3 doubles.
Rachel Sam and
Amanda Diaz tallied a 6-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Mischa Briggs and
Ipek Sakiroglu clinched the double point for GVSU with a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles action,
Mischa Briggs made it 2-0 in favor of GVSU with a dominate 6-1, 6-1 straight set win at No. 2 singles.
Anna Soteras made it 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-2 straight set win at No. 5 singles.
Natasha Sengphrachanh clinched the win and the 4-0 sweep for the Lakers to advance them to the next round with a dominate 6-1, 6-1 straight set win at the top singles position.
