Lakers Set to Play #15 Indiana (Pa.) Tuesday at National Championships

SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Grand Valley State women's tennis team is set to play in the NCAA National Championships in Surprise, Arizona. The Lakers are ranked as the number two team and will face number 15 Indiana (Pa.) in the Sweet 16 on Tuesday, May 19th at 3:00 PM ET.
 
The GVSU women's tennis team have advanced to nationals for the first time since the 2019 season. The Lakers were named the top seed in the Midwest Region and hosted the first two rounds of the tournament in Allendale. GVSU earned a first round bye before defeating Davenport 4-0 to punch their ticket to Arizona. 
 
GVSU heads to the national championships with an 18-1 overall record. The Lakers claimed the GLIAC regular season championship with a perfect 7-0 conference mark. GVSU won the GLIAC tournament championship, defeating Wayne State 4-0 in the semifinals and Ferris State 4-1 in the championship match. The Lakers have won 12 straight matches and went a perfect 11-0 at home this season. 
 
Indiana (Pa.) enters the national championships with a 21-7 overall record. IUP claimed the PSAC regular season championship with a perfect 5-0 conference record. The Crimson Hawks are making their 12th appearance in program history in the Sweet 16 round. They earned the two seed in the Atlantic Region and punched their ticket to Arizona after defeating Shaw 4-0 in the first round and Charleston 4-1 in the second round.
