ResultsALLENDALE - In their second match in as many days, the Grand Valley State women's tennis team took control against Ohio Dominican early, downing the Panthers 7-2 to up their overall and GLIAC record to 8-1. The loss dropped Ohio Dominican's overall record to 8-4, and their conference mark to 8-3.
The Lakers' only loss in singles play came in the first match (7-6 (5), 7-6 (4)) before reeling off five straight wins. Their first win came from
Kali Phillips (6-3, 6-2), while
Alexa Sweeney blanked her opponent in both sets (6-0, 6-0) to take the match.
Abby Perkins and
Kelly Trapp won their matches in equaly easy fashion, Perkins winning 6-1, 6-0, while Trapp was victorious 6-3, 6-0.
In doubles action, two of Grand Valley State's three wins came from
Leah Dancz/
Kali Phillips (8-3) and
Carola Orna/
Alexa Sweeney (8-0) before dropping the third and final match of doubles play.
Grand Valley State honors their graduating seniors in tomorrow's final home match of the season against conference foe Ashland at 10 a.m. The Lakers then head on the road against Ferris State and Northwood before the GLIAC Tournament begins on October 24.
