Three Lakers Earn GLIAC Individual Honors, 12 Named to All-GLIAC Teams

ALLENDALE – The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced the men's and women's All-GLIAC teams today (Apr. 23). GVSU earned three individual honors and 12 were named to the All-GLIAC teams.
 
On the women's side, Natasha Sengphrachanh was named the GLIAC women's tennis player of the year and earned first team singles and doubles All-GLIAC. Sengphrachanh becomes the fourth Laker in program history to earn player of the year honors. On the season, Sengphrachanh has posted a perfect 14-0 record in singles dual matches action all from the top position dropping just two sets. She went 7-0 in singles in conference play to help lead GVSU to a GLIAC regular season championship. In the fall, Sengphrachanh became the first player in GVSU program history to win the ITA Cup and being ranked as the number one singles player in the country. In doubles action, Sengphrachanh has posted a 14-2 record in dual matches all from the top doubles position, going 6-1 in conference play.
 
Head coach Sam Barr and the GVSU coaching staff have been named the GLIAC women's tennis coaching staff of the year. This is the second GLIAC coach of the year honors for Barr in her career at GVSU. Barr has guided GVSU to the GLIAC regular season championship with a perfect 7-0 record. During her time at GVSU, Barr has led the women's program to three GLIAC regular season championships and one tournament championship. The Lakers finished the regular season with a 15-1 overall record and are ranked number one in this week's NCAA Midwest regional rankings. 
 
Freshman Mischa Briggs earned first team singles and second team doubles honors. Briggs posted a 14-2 record in singles actions going 6-1 in conference play. Briggs went 12-2 from the number two position and 2-0 from the top position. In doubles action, Briggs notched a 12-3 record all from the number two position going 6-1 in GLIAC play. Junior Vale Mozas earned first team doubles and second team singles honors. Mozas recorded a 12-1 singles record going a perfect 5-0 in conference play. Mozas eanred a 6-1 record from the number three position and 4-0 from the number four position, In doubles action, Mozas went 12-2 while posting 11 wins from the top position. Sophomore Ipek Sakiroglu was named to the All-GLIAc doubles second team. Sakiroglu posted a 14-2 doubles record going 6-1 in conference play and 12 wins coming from the number two position. Senior Anna Soteras earned honorable mention honors going 10-4 in singles action with a 6-1 conference record. 
 
On the men's side, Bora Bakici has been named the GLIAC men's tennis freshman of the year and earned first team singles and doubles honors. Bakici becomes the first Laker in program history to earn freshman of the year honors. This season, Bakici has posted a 13-2 singles record going 5-1 in conference play. Bakici went a perfect 6-0 from the top singles position and 7-2 from the No. 2 position. In doubles play, Bakici posted a 5-1 conference record all from the top position with teammate Patricio Sepulveda. In the fall, Bakici won the Midwest ITA doubles championship with Sepulveda to advance to the ITA Cup.
 
Senior Patricio Sepulveda earned first team doubles honors. Sepulveda notched five doubles wins in conference play all from the top position. Jorge Ruiz and Axel Le Ho were named to the singles second team. Ruiz notched nine singles wins including a 5-1 record in conference play. He posted five wins from the number two position and two from the number four position. Le Ho went 13-2 in singles play going a perfect 6-0 in conference play. Le Ho notched five wins from the number three and four positions. Stephen Claassen and Lawrence Ivanov earned second team doubles honors. The pair posted nine wins together with a 5-1 conference record all from the number two position. Denys Zamaraiev earned honorable mention honors posting three doubles wins in conference play and one win from the top singles position in conference play.
