GVSU Swim & Dive Men and Women Hold First Place After Day 1

HOLLAND, Mich. – The men's and women's teams had an impressive first day of competition at the 2026 GLIAC Championships in Holland, Michigan. The women scored 267 points to take first place, while the men also secured first place with a score of 209.

The women's 200 medley relay took second place with a time of 1:42.60. Members of the relay included Vittoria Proietti, Liv Geiger, Avery Rottier, and Ana Villamil.

Katie O'Connell touched the wall at 10:00.31 to take first place in the 1000 freestyle. O'Connell dropped 13 seconds off her previous personal best. Proietti earned third with a time of 10:11.36.

Sara Alvarez took second place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.07, and Elliott McAlpine finished third with a time of 2:04.08.

Lucy Hedley broke her own school record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.72, taking first place for the Lakers. Rottier touched the wall at 23.54 to place fourth.

The Lakers' 200 freestyle relay team finished first with a time of 1:33.00. Members of the relay included Rottier, Villamil, Zeinert, and Hedley.

On the men's side, the 200 medley relay touched the wall at 1:26.32 to take first place for the Lakers. Members included Mahmoud Abdelkarim, Andrew Goh, Keiran Rahmaan, and Evan Scotto DiVetta.

Raul Briceno grabbed third place for the Lakers in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:11.02.

Scotto DiVetta touched the wall at 19.64 to take second place in the 50 freestyle. Max Schwickert finished fourth in the 1-meter dive with a score of 447.65.

The men's 200 freestyle relay took third with a time of 1:18.63. Members included Usama, Abdelkarim, Christoffel, and Scotto DiVetta.
