The Men's & Women's Still Hold First Place At The Calvin Winter Invite

ALLENDALE, Mich. — The men's and women's teams wrapped up the second day of the Calvin Winter Invite, and the Lakers on both sides remain in first place.

On the women's side, GVSU has a current score of 1,354.5, followed by Northern Michigan (1,020.5), Findlay (855.5), Calvin (712.5), Indiana Wesleyan (398) and Lawrence (99).

The women's 200 medley relay finished in 1:42.09 to take second place. Relay members included Vittoria Proietti, Liv Geiger, Avery Rottier and Lucy Hedley.Rottier also placed third in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.76.

Katie O'Connell won the 400 IM in 4:21.35, followed by teammate Sara Alvarez in second (4:25.86) and Gaia Tomaselli in third (4:30.17). In the 200 freestyle, Hedley took first for the Lakers in 1:47.58, with Angelica Angilletta finishing third.

In the 100 breaststroke, Geiger placed second in 1:02.92, and Elliott McAlpine took fourth in 1:03.95. Proietti won the 100 backstroke in 55.71, and Alice Persson placed third in 56.59.

On the diving side, Olivia Kutsche finished second in the 1-meter with a score of 421.55, followed by teammates Macy Polasek, Emi Goto and Samantha Plough in third through fifth. Kutsche and Bradleigh Palmer secured their NCAA qualifying cuts earlier during prelims.

On the men's side, the Lakers lead with 1,442 points, followed by Calvin (903.5), Findlay (863), Northern Michigan (783), Indiana Wesleyan (291.5) and Lawrence (113).

In the 200 medley relay, Mahmoud Abdelkarim, Jan Matejzcuk, Ali Usama and Evan Scotto DiVetta won with a time of 1:26.15. Thomas Ferguson claimed first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 47.49.

In the 400 IM, Matti Gaebler finished second in 3:55.97, while Luis Ojeda Bosch and Moritz Hesse placed third and fourth with times of 3:55.97 and 3:58.39, respectively. Ferguson also took second in the 200 freestyle in 1:37.41, and Scotto DiVetta followed in third at 1:38.04.

In the 100 breaststroke, Matejzcuk placed second in 54.24. Abdelkarim took second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 47.23.

On the boards, Carter Wood finished third in the 3-meter dive with a score of 472.60, while Austin Clise and Max Schwickert placed fourth and fifth.
