Both The Men’s And Women’s Teams Hold First Place After Day 1 Of The Calvin Winter Invite.

ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Lakers wrapped up the first day of the Calvin Winter Invite with both the men's and women's teams currently leading the leaderboard. One school record was broken tonight. 

On the women's side, GVSU has a current score of 651.5, followed by Northern Michigan (455.5), Findlay (422), Calvin (343), Indiana Wesleyan (190) and Lawrence (64).

The women's 200 free relay placed second with a time of 1:31.93. Members of the relay team included Lucy Hedley, Avery Rottier, Ana Villamil and Samara Zeinert. The time also marked a new school record.

Hedley touched the wall in 4:49.37 in the 500 free to take first place. Right behind her was Katie O'Connell, who finished second in 4:58.42.In the 200 IM, Sara Alvarez placed first for the Lakers with a time of 2:03.67. Elliott McAlpine finished third in 2:05.60.

In the final individual event of the night for the women, the 50 free, Rottier took second in 23.48, and Villamil placed third in 23.64. The 400 medley relay team placed second with a time of 3:43.88. Members of the relay included Hedley, Proietti, Geiger and Rottier.

On the men's side, they currently have a score of 647 followed by Northern Michigan (421), Findlay (416), Calvin (392.5), Indiana Wesleyan (162.5), and Lawerence (76). 

In the 500 free, Berk Boz finished second in 4:27.75. Luis Ojeda Bosch took third in 4:29.34, and Mason Crews placed fourth.

In the 200 IM, Jan Matejczuk finished third in 1:48.61, and Matti Gaebler took fourth in 1:49.21.

Mahmoud Abdelkarim grabbed second for the Lakers in the 50 free with a time of 19.85. Ali Usama finished third in 19.85.

The men's 400 medley relay team took first place with a time of 3:11.50. Members include Scotto DiVetta, Ferguson, Matejczuk, and Abdelkarim
