ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Lakers wrapped up their final home meet of the 2025 calendar year against the University of Indianapolis. The meet stayed close on the men's side, ultimately the Lakers came up short. The women, meanwhile, steadily handled the Greyhounds throughout the day, maintaining their lead from start to finish.
On the women's side, GVSU came out on top with a score of 187-115.
The 200 medley relay team took first place with a time of 1:45.90. Members of the team included Vittoria Proietti, Liv Geiger, Avery Rottier and Samara Zeinert.
Linda Frick grabbed a win in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:48.50. Lucy Hedley and Angelica Angilletta finished first and second in the 200 freestyle with times of 1:51.38 and 1:55.76, respectively. Ana Villamil took third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.16. In the 200 butterfly, Kelly Shortall finished first with 2:10.31, while Gaia Tomaselli took third in 2:13.36.
Hedley continued her strong day, winning the 50 freestyle in 23.58 and the 100 freestyle in 51.10. Proietti and Zeinert went one-two in the 200 backstroke with times of 2:02.35 and 2:04.79, respectively. Elliott McAlpine placed second in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:22.92, while Sara Alvarez finished fourth.
In the 500 freestyle, Proietti (5:08.41), Katie O'Connell (5:12.65) and Frick (5:14.54) swept the top three spots for the Lakers. Alvarez also earned a win in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:09.68.
On the boards, Emi Goto scored 250.28 to take second in the 3-meter dive, followed by Polasek, Larson and Palmer in third, fourth and fifth. Goto later won the 1-meter event with a score of 262.80, while Olivia Kutsche, Bradeigh Palmer and Samantha Plough finished second through fourth.
The 400 freestyle relay team of Rottier, Angilletta, Villamil and Hedley took first place with a time of 3:29.03.
On the men's side, GVSU fell 135-165.
The men's 200 medley relay team placed second with a time of 1:31.12. Members included Mahmoud Abdelkarim, Jan Matejczuk, Ammar Eltaranisy and Evan Scotto DiVetta. In the 1000 freestyle, Raul Briceno took second with a 9:35.16. Thomas Ferguson also placed second in the 200 freestyle with a 1:41.09.
Freshman Matti Gaebler won the 200 butterfly with a 1:52.87, while Eltaranisy finished third in 1:56.07. Scotto DiVetta claimed first in both the 50 freestyle (20.45) and 100 freestyle (44.99).Anton Rauch finished second in the 200 backstroke with a 1:53.73, and Ferguson added a runner-up finish in the 100 butterfly (50.13). Gaebler also placed second in the 200 individual medley with a 1:54.03.
In diving, Carter Wood won the 1-meter event with a score of 313.43, while Austin Clise took third (273.60). Wood also placed second in the 3-meter dive with a 296.03, followed by three other Lakers in third, fourth and fifth.
The men's 400 freestyle relay team capped the meet with a thrilling comeback win, overcoming a large UIndy lead to touch first in 3:01.57. Team members were Abdelkarim, Ferguson, Christoffel, and Scotto DiVetta.
