GVSU Swim & Dive Sweeps Calvin, Saginaw Valley in Tri Dual Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Grand Valley State Lakers swept Calvin University and Saginaw Valley State in both the men's and women's meets Friday evening.

On the women's side, the Lakers defeated Calvin 249-51 and Saginaw Valley State 241-58.

The 200 medley relay team of Proietti, Villamil, Rottier, and Hedley touched the wall first with a time of 1:44.05. GVSU's B relay team finished second.

Carly Damon and Gaia Tomaselli placed third and fourth in the 1,000 freestyle with times of 10:41.89 and 10:44.39.

Senior Katie O'Connell won the 200 freestyle in 1:51.83, followed by teammate Linda Frick in third at 1:53.93. Vittoria Proietti claimed first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.40, and Alice Persson followed in second at 58.19.

Liv Geiger took first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.62, while Sara Alvarez finished second at 1:03.87. In the 200 butterfly, Shortall won with a time of 2:06.91. Tomaselli took second, also at 2:06.91, followed by Heidi Schneider and Yunona Freese in third and fourth.

Lucy Hedley won the 50 freestyle in 23.92, and Angelica Angilletta finished second in the 100 freestyle (52.78). Persson grabbed first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:01.96, while Nation placed third (2:04.52).

McAlpine earned her second win of the meet in the 200 breaststroke (2:16.49). Alvarez finished second (2:21.18), and Maya Reifinger placed third. Proietti earned her second victory of the meet in the 500 freestyle (4:57.73). Hedley and Frick took third and fourth with times of 5:08.12 and 5:08.95.

Shortall picked up another win in the 100 butterfly (57.69), followed by freshmen Alex Evans and Alivia Weaver in third and fourth. O'Connell earned another first-place finish in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:05.22. Staci Nation finished second (2:09.17), while two other Lakers placed third and fourth.

On the boards, Emi Goto won the 1-meter dive with a score of 250.95. Olivia Kutsche (244.50), Macy Polasek (238.45), and Bradleigh Palmer (236.60) finished second through fourth.

In the 3-meter dive, Kutsche took first (256.45), and Goto finished second (244.75).

The Lakers' 400 freestyle relay team of Samara Zeinert, Angelica Angilletta, Vittoria Proietti, and Madeline Basa placed first with a time of 3:28.95.

On the men's side, GVSU dominated Calvin and Saginaw Valley with scores of 250-48 and 233-66.

The 200 medley relay team of Jan Matejczuk, Andrew Goh, Thomas Ferguson, and Evan Scotto DiVetta took first with a time of 1:27.91.Freshman Berk Boz won the 1,000 freestyle (9:25.26), followed by Anton Rauch in second (9:33.44).

Freshman Matti Gaebler made a strong statement in the 200 freestyle, winning in 1:39.41. Raul Briceno placed second (1:39.45), and Lakers also claimed third through fifth. Goh won the 100 breaststroke in 54.39. Luis Ojeda Bosch took first in the 200 butterfly (1:52.48).

Scotto DiVetta sprinted to first in the 50 freestyle (19.98), while Carsyn Christoffel finished second (20.69). Scotto DiVetta also claimed first in the 100 freestyle (43.67), with Christoffel in third (45.28). Rauch won the 200 backstroke (1:47.74), and Moritz Hesse finished third (1:52.33).Goh earned another victory in the 200 breaststroke (2:02.26), with Matejczuk taking second (2:03.68).

In the 500 freestyle, the Lakers swept the top four spots: Briceno (4:29.09), Gaebler (4:33.27), Boz (4:39.48), and Evan Fox (4:42.86). Ferguson took first in the 100 butterfly (47.98), with two other Lakers finishing second and third.

GVSU swept the top five in the 200 individual medley: Matejczuk (1:53.08), Gaebler (1:53.14), Ojeda Bosch (1:54.22), Hesse (1:55.26), and Mason Crews (1:56.44).

Carter Wood won the 1-meter dive (271.30), while Gryffin Porter finished third (260.90). Wood also claimed first in the 3-meter dive (337.70), followed by Austin Clise in second (265.80).

The 400 freestyle relay team of Ferguson, Mahmoud Abdelkarim, Christoffel, and Scotto DiVetta closed the meet with a first-place finish (2:56.14).

The Lakers return to action Saturday, Oct. 25, when they host Northern Michigan at the GVSU Pool. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
