Grand Rapids, Mich.- The Lakers competed on the first day of the invite that put both the mens and womens in first place.
Starting on the men's side, Raul Briceno took first place in the 500 yard free with a time of 4:25.95 to give the Lakers a great first day of competition. Jon Kantzenbach snagged a time of 4:28.20 in this event to take second place behind his teammate.
Esteban Nuñez Del Prado snatched first in the 200 IM with a time of 1:46.76. Will Herwig grabbed top-5 for the Lakers in this event.
Evan Scotto DiVetta touched the wall at 19.92 to take first place for the Lakers. Matt Bosch took fourth in this event.
The Lakers on the men: Bosch, Dies, Nunez Del Prado, and Scotto DiVetta took first in the 200 yard free relay as they broke a pool record at the Venema Aquatic Center with a time of 1:18.81.
The GVSU men 400 medley relay team touched the wall at 3:11.47 to take first place for the Lakers.
On the women's side, Katie O'Connell took first place in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.23 on day one of the invite. Linda Frick placed top-10 in this event, she grabbed seventh place.
Sara Alvarez touched the wall at 2:02.63 in the 200 IM to take first place. Vittoria Proietti snagged second place in this event with a time of 2:03.35.
Lucy Hedley grabbed second place in the 50 yard free with a time of 23.2 to help the Lakers in the first day of competition.
Angelica Angilletta, Kiersten Harmon, Lucy Hedley, and Alysa Wager competed in the 200 yard free relay and took third place with a time of 1:33.46.
The Lakers finished second in the 400 yard medley relay with a time of 3:42.51. Members of the relay included: Sara Alvarez, Lucy Hedley, Vittoria Proietti, and Alysa Wager. This time was the new school record.
The GVSU men's and women's teams will compete in Day 2 on Friday, December 6th, with events scheduled at 10 a.m. and again at 6 p.m. for the finals of Round 2. Diving will also begin at 10 a.m. and conclude with the finals at 6 p.m. To follow along on round 2, click
