ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's volleyball team returns home this weekend for the final homestand of the regular season, taking on SVSU and LSSU. GVSU won the previous matchups with both teams earlier this season.

Saturday will be Senior Day for Grand Valley State. The Lakers will honor their four seniors,
Kaitlyn Bingham,
Julia Blaney,
Jordyn Gates, and
Elena Vaara. The four have been part of
84 wins, a GLIAC regular season championship, and two trips to the NCAA Regional Tournament.
The Lakers are coming off their second loss of the season, falling Saturday at Ferris State. They are still second in the GLIAC, sitting at 10-2 in the league and 21-2 overall. GVSU defeated Davenport on Friday in four sets. The Lakers remained 12
th in the country in the AVCA poll with just four games to play before the start of the conference tournament.
GVSU swept SVSU in the first meeting of the year, winning 25-20, 25-19, 25-19. The Lakers had a balanced offensive attack, with five players getting five or more kills.
Kendall Stover led the way with nine, followed by
Brianna Stawski with eight, and
Meghan O'Sullivan with seven. They hit .311 as a team and totaled 10 blocks in the win.
Saginaw Valley has won two straight and three of their past five to move to 6-17 overall and improved their GLIAC record to 3-9. Last weekend they defeated LSSU and Roosevelt in straight sets. Sarah Veale has been a key offensive force during the recent hot streak, tallying double-digit kills in four of the five matches, including twice topping 20 kills. The Cardinals split the setting duties between Ava Beard and Jackie Scheiber, who both have over 360 assists. SVSU has struggled defensively, allowing opponents to hit .226 this season, the second worst in the conference.
On Saturday, it will be the Lakers versus the Lakers in a rematch of a Grand Valley State sweep. GVSU won the match by the scores of 25-19, 25-18, and 25-22. Gates tallied 10 kills to lead the offense, with
Kate Goudreau adding seven, and Stover had six. With a win on Saturday, GVSU will have won 60 straight matches over LSSU.
Rounding out the weekend with LSSU, who enters having lost their previous four matches and five of their past six. The dropped matches to both SVSU and Roosevelt last weekend, giving Roosevelt their first win since joining the GLIAC. They have four players with over 100 kills, led by Gia Waters' 164. Setter Vanessa Swerdon ranks eighth in the league with 480 assists and middle hitter Morgan Deming is seventh in the league with 68 total blocks.
