ALLENDALE, MICH. – The 19^th-ranked Grand Valley State women's volleyball team begins conference play this weekend, playing two games. The Lakers host Lake Superior State on Friday, before traveling to Wayne State on Saturday.

Grand Valley State begins GLIAC play with a 6-2 record, following a 3-1 showing at the Hampton Inn and Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic. GVSU swept Northwood, Post, and Cedarville, before falling to Seton Hill in five sets on Saturday. The Lakers moved up one spot in the AVCA national poll, jumping up to the 19^th in the country. Seven players totaled 20 or more kills over the weekend, with Gabby Orlet dishing out 125 assists. Paige Sanders led the way with 30 kills and 10 blocks, with Lexi Armstrong having a team-high 55 digs.
 
Lake Superior State has begun the season with a 3-5 record, going 0-4 at the Hardrocker Tournament, before they went 3-1 at Thomas More's Tournament last weekend. Picked to finish 10^th in the league's preseason poll, the Lakers are trying to make the conference tournament for the first time in three seasons. Coming off a 1-22 season, LSSU has already tripled their win total under new head coach Chelsea Cooke-Tripp. Second-year outside hitter Elisa Rizzoli has recorded double-digit kills in five of the eight matches and leads the Lakers with 76. LSSU has the second-lowest hitting percentage in the conference, only swinging at a .135 clip. GVSU has won 63 straight matches over LSSU, dating back to 1989, only dropping 13 sets in that time.
 
Reigning GLIAC regular season co-champion and tournament champion Wayne State has gotten off to a 4-4 start this year. They went 2-2 at both their own home tournament and the Gannon Invitational. Three Warriors have totaled over 82 kills this season, led by junior outside hitter Saige Martin's 123, which ranks second in the conference. 2025 GLIAC Setter of the Year Kayla Dulgar continues to lead the Warrior offense, distributing a league-high 342 assists thus far. The Warriors are 14-3 at home over the past two seasons. Wayne State swept the season series last year, winning in five sets in Allendale and four at home.
