#20 Lakers Sweep Northwood In Home Opener

ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team began their home schedule this afternoon, with a dominant sweep of Northwood in the first game of the Hampton Inn and Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic. The victory moves GVSU to 4-1 in 2026.
 
The Lakers took the match by the scores of 25-12, 25-15, and 25-12. GVSU started the opening set on a 15-4 scoring run, capped off by eight straight points. They continued their dominance to end game one scoring six of the final eight points. In the second set, the Lakers once again started hot, this time going up 12-4 over the Timberwolves. It was cruise control from that point on for GVSU, who went up 2-0 in the match with a 10-point victory. Set three was much of the same, with Grand Valley State taking a 12-2 advantage early on, then taking care of business with an Autumn Gorman kill ending the match.
 
Gabby Orlet dished out 28 assists and Caroline Baker distributed 11. Paige Sanders had a team-high seven kills, with Brianna Stawski, Finley Arp, and Grace Busold each had six. In her first game back this season, Kate Goudreau recorded five kills in the final set. Lexi Armstrong totaled 15 digs and Busold added 11. Orlet served three service aces, with Kennedy Arp sending away two. The Lakers swung at a .394 clip, all while holding the Timberwolves to a .022 hitting percentage.
 
Up Next
The Lakers will play two more games tomorrow. They take on Post at 1:00, then in the final game of the day, GVSU will play Cedarville at 7:00.
