ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's volleyball team returns home tomorrow for a rivalry matchup with fellow west Michigan school Davenport. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 in the fieldhouse.

The Lakers are coming a 2-0 weekend, as they swept Wayne State then beat SVSU in four sets. Those victories moved GVSU to 9-1 to begin the season and 3-1 in conference play, tied for second in the GLIAC.
Jordyn Gates had another strong weekend for the Lakers, tallying 29 kills, 45 assists, 18 digs, and 10 total blocks.
Brianna Stawski had 12 total blocks this weekend and now is tied for fourth in the conference with 37 blocks, and her 1.19 blocks per set lead the league. On top of that, the Lakers are the best blocking team in the GLIAC, totaling 81 blocks and 2.45 blocks per set. The 9-1 start to the season for the Lakers is their best record in the first 10 games of a season since 2006, when they also started 9-1.
Davenport is 5-7 to open the year and 2-2 in league play, defeating Michigan Tech and Lake Superior State, and falling to both Northern Michigan and Ferris State in five sets. The Panthers have the back-to-back GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week in libero Stephanie Kalinowski, who leads the conference with 220 digs and 4.58 digs per set. Lindsay Taylor has a team-high 133 kills and Sydney Swan has 103. The Panthers split setting duties between Nicole Odeen (220 assists) and Lexie Beeke (190 assists). Last season these two teams matched up three times, twice in the regular season and then once in the GLIAC Quarterfinals. The Panthers won in four sets in Allendale, then the Lakers got that back in Caledonia, winning in four sets there. In the GLIAC Tournament, the two got together for a five-set thriller, in which the Lakers came out on top.
