Women's Lacrosse Announces Rachel Robb As Assistant Coach

08.24.2023

The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team is pleased to announce the hiring of Rachel Robb as the team's new assistant coach. Robb will bring multiple years of playing and coaching experience to Allendale starting this fall.

"I am thrilled to welcome Rachel to GVSU. Her passion for building relationships through the game of lacrosse is the perfect fit with our team culture and I know her experience as a goalie will be a tremendous asset to our defensive unit," head coach Mackenzie Lawler stated. "We are excited to diversify our staff with someone from outside of the Midwest to bring in fresh ideas and continue to help elevate our program to new heights."

Robb played four years at Division II Young Harris in Georgia, where she holds the program record in saves with 401, and holds the single season saves record, stopping 169 shots in 2019. During her time at Young Harris, Robb helped lead the Mountain Lions to the Gulf South Conference Championship in both 2018 and 2019.

In addition to a stellar playing career, Robb has also collected a strong coaching resume as well. She was an assistant coach and goalies coach for the prestigious Hotbama Summer Travel Club for five years. During that time, she helped put together practice plans, run offensive and defensive drills, and do all the goalie work for the team. Throughout the five years, she worked with both high school and middle school teams, leading them to multiple tournament championships across the southeast.

Along with her coaching stint with Hotbama, Robb was also the volunteer goalie coach this past season for DIII Birmingham-Southern College. While there, Robb oversaw all goalie drills and training. Additionally, she led drills for both the offensive and defensive units. Under her tutelage, the Panthers tallied 179 saves and a .418 save percentage.

Last season, GVSU went 16-5, winning the GLIAC regular season and tournament titles, as well as the Midwest Regional Championship and they return seven All-GLIAC performers.
