MARQUETTE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team completed a fourth quarter comeback at Northern Michigan to remain unbeaten in GLIAC play. The Lakers scored three goals in the final period to claim a 9-8 victory over the Wildcats. GVSU is now 7-7 this season and 6-0 in league play.
Two first quarter goals from
Ella Boose helped GVSU go up 3-2 after the first 15 minutes. The Lakers outscored NMU 3-1 in the second to lead 6-3 going into halftime.
Northern Michigan tallied five goals in the third quarter, while holding the Lakers scoreless to take an 8-6 lead heading into the fourth.
Veronica Ziemer brought the Lakers within one, then Boose tied the game with about 10 minutes to play. With 2:56 remaining,
Gracie Bancroft caused a turnover, then found
Eliana LaMange, who gave the Lakers the lead. With less than a minute to play, the Wildcats go a stop, but LaMange stole an outlet pass to give possession back to GVSU, who ran out the rest of the clock.
Sarah Krause was terrific in net again, recording 12 saves in the cage, picking up three groundballs. LaMange and
Karleigh Rothe each caused two turnovers, with Rothe grabbing three groundballs. LaMange,
Quinn McElroy, and
Lauren Volk each had two groundballs.
Ella Boose scored four times to lead to offense, with LaMange tallying two goals.
Leah Leonard,
Delaney Smith, and
Veronica Ziemer all had one goal. Smith distributed three assists, while
Gracie Bancroft and
Jillian Bingman had one assist. Boose totaled five draw controls and Smith had three.
