ALLENDALE, MICH. – The Grand Valley State women's lacrosse team scored early and often en route to a dominate 21-8 home victory over Walsh. The win gets GVSU over .500 at 8-7 this season. Before the game, the team honored graduate assistant coach
Jackie Wolford for all she has done for the program.
The Lakers scored the first six goals of the game, all within the first eight minutes of action. Walsh finally got on the board, but it was answered with three more scores from GVSU. One addition Cavalier goal made the score 9-2 after one quarter. The Lakers outscored Walsh 3-2 in the second quarter to lead 12-4 at the half.
In the third quarter, both teams traded a goal, then GVSU rattled off four straight to end the period, going up 17-5. Grand Valley State added six more goals in the fourth quarter to register their highest scoring output of the season.
Ella Boose scored a career-high seven goals, putting her over 100 for her Laker career.
Kendra Swope added a hat trick, while
Gracie Bancroft and
Leah Leonard each scored twice. Seven Lakers scored once, including
Jill Dennison tallying her first of the season. Leonard dished out three assists, with
Ainsley Shilling,
Jillian Bingman, and
Delaney Smith each having two apiece. Boose and
Kayleigh Sandell each had four draw controls.
Sarah Krause made six saves in her time in net. In front of her,
Lauren Volk caused three turnovers and had two groundballs. Swope, Bancroft, and Shilling also all had two groundballs.
