ALLENDALE, MICH. – The GVSU women's volleyball team opens play in November with two GLIAC games this weekend. The Lakers come into the weekend riding a three-game winning streak, beating Northern Michigan, Michigan Tech, and Davenport during that stretch. Jordyn Gates has led the way with three triple-doubles over those three games and has upped her total to nine on the year, which leads Division II. Sarah Wight has added 31 kills and 15 blocks over that time as well, and her 82 blocks lead the team, while her 1.05 blocks per set is second in the conference. The winning streak has moved GVSU to 20-3 on the season, giving them their first 20-win season since 2015.

The first time GVSU and Ferris played, the Bulldogs came away with a five-set victory up in Big Rapids. Wight had 16 kills in the match, while Gates had a 13-kill, 20-assists, and 25-dig triple-double. The two Lakers also squared off earlier this season, with GVSU taking down LSSU in straight sets. Wight tallied 12 kills in the win, while Gates added 10 kills and 17 assists. The win was the 56th straight victory in the rivalry for GVSU.

GVSU puts their undefeated home record on the line Friday night, as Ferris State comes to Allendale for a matchup of the top two teams in the GLIAC. The Bulldogs are atop the conference standings at 13-1 in GLIAC play, as they suffered their first conference loss last weekend in five sets to Parkside. Despite the loss, FSU is ranked 19th in the most recent AVCA rankings. The Bulldogs are the top blocking team in the league, totaling 208 this season, good for 2.34 per set. They also have the second most service aces, serving 174 this year, recording 1.96 per set. Setter Kaylee Maat is third in the conference with 882 assists, and attacker Olivia Henneman-Dallape is fifth with 313 kills.

In the final road game of the regular season, the Lakers will travel up to Sault St. Marie to take on Lake Superior State Sunday afternoon at 2:00. LSSU is 6-19 overall and 3-11 in conference play, as they sit ninth in the conference standings. Marianna Velasque is second in the conference with 333 kills and Emily Kalinowski is fourth with 880 assists. The Lakers are on a five-game losing streak, which started the first time these two teams met up.
