Bursinger and Maloney Take Home Player of the Week Honors

The No. 14 Lakers finished the week with wins over No. 23 Saint Leo and No. 11 Tampa. GVSU defeated St. Leo 18-11 on Thursday and defeated Tampa 16-5 on Sunday, beginning the 2022 season with a strong 2-0 start. Following the pair of wins over the two ranked opponents, the Lakers have swept the GLIAC Player of the Week mentions. 

Molly Bursinger and Audrey Maloney earned offensive and defensive accolades, respectively, as released by the league office on Tuesday. Bursinger was also recognized nationally as the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Offensive Player of the Week for DII. 

Bursinger finished the week with eight goals and one assists, for a total of nine points this week. The junior midfielder connected on 8 of 10 shots, shooting a stellar 80% against the two ranked opponents. Bursinger also won 23 draw controls, picked up four ground balls, and forced two turnovers this week. 

Maloney finished with 16 saves this week, including a career-high 14 saves against Tampa on Sunday. Maloney's 14 saves also ranks in fourth place in the single-game saves record at Grand Valley State. The sophomore goalkeeper saved 55.2% of shots faced this week and only gave up 13 goals to the two ranked opponents. 

GVSU women's lacrosse will be back in action on Friday, March 4, as they travel to Indianapolis to face the Indianapolis Greyhounds.
