Head Coach Jason Johnson announced on Tuesday, August 10, the hiring of Jamie Ashmore as an assistant coach for the women's volleyball program.

"I am excited that I am able to bring Jamie Ashmore home to GVSU," Johnson said. "We have had a great relationship since her days as a starting setter for GVSU, to working together when she graduated, to watching her grow into a successful head coach at Indiana University – South Bend. She is very well connected in the youth volleyball community throughout the Midwest and will immediately start to help with our recruiting. Jamie will be responsible for our setter development and helping build our offensive system."

Ashmore spent the last 10 years coaching for the Indiana University South Bend Titans, where she has been the one and only head coach of the volleyball program. During her tenure at IUSB, she accumulated a career record of 146-143 (.505) and led the program to three CCAC Championships and two NAIA National Tournament runs.

Before leading the Titans, Ashmore was an administrator for the Dunes Volleyball Club in Rolling Prairie, Indiana. She guided the club's 15U team to a first-place finish in the Bronze Division at the AAU Nationals in Orlando.

Ashmore was a player in the GVSU women's volleyball program from 2005-2008. She was a four-year starter for the Lakers, where she led the team to its 2005 NCAA Division II National Championship. She was recognized as an All-American and earned First Team All-Region and All-GLIAC honors during her campaign at GVSU.

"I am extremely excited and grateful for the opportunity to return to Grand Valley," said Ashmore. "Grand Valley has always felt like home to me, so I knew I had to come back and coach here. I made so many wonderful memories as an undergrad, and I can't wait to help our student-athletes make them as well."

Women's volleyball opens up the season in the Colorado School of Mines Tournament on September 3.
