PREVIEW: GVSU Volleyball to host Davenport on Tuesday

The Lakers will look to rebound from an 0-2 GLIAC weekend

ALLENDALE – Mich. – The Grand Valley State volleyball team is back in action on Tuesday, September 24 at 7:00 P.M. against Davenport University inside the GVSU Fieldhouse. It is a quick turnaround for both teams, as they each played matches on Friday and Saturday to open GLIAC play. Use the links above to follow along with the match tomorrow night.
 
GVSU enters Tuesday with a 4-6 overall record and an 0-2 record in GLIAC play after a pair of losses at home over the weekend. The Lakers dropped a five-set match with Northern Michigan on Friday before falling to Michigan Tech in straight sets on Saturday.
 
Davenport also comes into play on Tuesday with an 0-2 GLIAC record. The Panthers fell to Michigan Tech on Friday by a score of 3-1 and Northern Michigan on Saturday, 3-1. DU has struggled so far this season with a 2-8 overall record to begin the 2019 campaign while participating in a pair of tournaments. The first weekend of the season Davenport competed in the Tony Banner Memorial Tournament in Clarion, Pennsylvania before heading to Indianapolis, Indiana the following weekend to play in the University of Indianapolis Invitational. The Panthers lone wins of the season were against Clarion and Northern Michigan in a non-conference match.
 
The Lakers lead Davenport in most team statistical categories including; kills per set (12.28-11.94), assists per set (11.28-10.85), digs per set (16.27-14.21), and blocks per set (2.23-1.84). The Panthers have the edge in attack percentage (.182-.162) and a slim advantage in service aces per set (1.68-1.63). GVSU's 2.23 blocks per set ranks first in the GLIAC.
 
Freshman Jaeli Primus has started off her collegiate career strong. The Hudsonville, Mich. native leads the GLIAC in blocks per set at 1.21, while also recording 93 kills with a .269 attack percentage. Redshirt freshman Emma Clines ranks ninth in the GLIAC in kills with 121, freshman setter Rachel Jacquay ranks seventh in the GLIAC with 328 assists, and senior Kendall Yerkes is fifth in the conference in digs per set at 4.38.
 
Davenport's Emmy Webb is hitting at a .326 clip which is good for second in the conference, while Kenzy Corstange is second in the GLIAC in service aces per set at 0.50.
 
Following the match, the Lakers will play host to Wayne State on Friday at 7:00 P.M., before finishing their five game homestand on Saturday against the Ashland Eagles at 4:00 P.M.
