The postseason has officially started as the Lakers will travel to Sports Force Park in Sandusky, Ohio for the 2019 GLIAC Tournament where they will face Ferris State in the opening game tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM (May 2). The defending tournament champion Lakers are once again the #1 seed while the Bulldogs come in at #8. This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season, with GVSU holding the 4-0 regular season series lead.Â

All teams are guaranteed two games on opening day despite a win or loss in their first game. Should the Lakers beat the Bulldogs, they will play the winner of #5 Saginaw Valley State and #4 Northwood at 4:30 PM later that afternoon. A loss would see the Lakers play again at 2:30 PM against the loser of SVSU and NU.Â

The Lakers wrapped up their regular season with a 40-8 record overall and a 24-6 record against conference competition and are winners in their last three doubleheaders, going 6-0 in that time. One of those doubleheader sweeps was against the Bulldogs just last week (April 25) when they took the games by 5-0 and 3-0 scores to sweep the regular season series against FSU.Â

GVSU boasts the top offense in the league, leading the way in average (.332), on-base percentage (.385), and slugging (.506) as well as total hits (454) and total runs scored (318). The Lakers have also blasted 42 homers, 79 doubles, and 16 triples as they've knocked in a total of 284 runs directly off of hits.Â

Sophomore
Nikoma Holmen and freshman
Lydia Goble have had extremely productive seasons at the plate so far. Holmen leads the squad with a .417 average and .681 slugging percentage while racking up 68 hits, 14 doubles, nine homers, and 51 total RBI's. Goble leads the team with 53 RBI's and 13 homers to go with her .360 average, 11 doubles, and .411 OBP.Â

An additional five Lakers are also hitting over .300, a list that includes
Joanna Cirrincione (.384),
Bailey Thatcher (.383),
Shannon Flaherty (.368),
Kaylie Rhynard (.333), and
Morgan Wagner (.303).
Taylor Rieger is also hitting .286 but is third on the team in RBI's (41) and doubles (12) while being tied with Holmen in second place with nine long balls.Â

On the other hand, the Laker pitching staff has a combined 1.78 ERA, 21 shutouts, and 359 strikeouts to just 80 walks. Leading that charge is senior
Allison Lipovsky who's posted a 23-2 record to go with a 0.78 ERA, 249 strikeouts (30 walks), and just 19 earned runs. She's also tossed a nation-leading 15 shutouts in her 24 complete games. Seeing a majority of the rest of the action in the circle has been freshman
Samantha Gehrls. She's posted a 9-2 record so far with a 3.72 ERA, 55 strikeouts, and 32 walks.Â

The Bulldogs enter the postseason tournament with a 20-32 record overall and an 11-21 mark in conference action. They are 3-6 in their last seven games with wins over Northwood, Ashland, and Wayne State.Â

As a team, the Bulldogs are batting .286 and have scored 213 total runs this season while their pitching staff is sporting a 5.04 ERA with a .346 batting average against.Â

At the plate, Logan Fleming is leading the team with a .354 average to go with 14 doubles, two triples and four homers. Just behind her is Kodi Ramirez who's hitting at a .353 clip to go with her team-leading 66 hits and 15 doubles. The duo of Paige Kortz (.347) and Kylie Winkels (.328) are second and third on the team. Fleming (32) and Ramirez (30) also lead the way in RBI's.Â

In the circle, Connor Proctor and Abby Highway have both tossed 128.0 innings. Highway leads the team with an 11-14 record while Proctor is 7-16. They are sporting 5.14 and 4.38 ERA's, respectively, while Kaitlyn Nugent has tossed 64.1 innings as well, going 2-2 on the season.Â
