CROWN POINT, Ind. - The Grand Valley State softball team fell to Ferris State 9-1 and Purdue Northwest 6-3 in the GLIAC tournament Friday (May 8) afternoon. The Lakers finish the 2026 season with a 28-25 record.
In the first game against Ferris State, the Bulldogs opened the game with a five-run first inning. GVSU got on the board in the top of the third inning on an

Faith Edwards. Ferris State would add two runs in the fifth inning to make it 7-1 and two more runs in the sixth to claim the eight-run mercy rule through six innings. The Lakers notched six hits all from different players.
Eliana Eiland hit a triple down the left field line in the first inning and Edwards launched a double down he left field line in the fifth inning.
In the elimination game against Purdue Northwest, the Lakers got on the board first with one run in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs in the inning, Eiland kept the inning alive with an infield single to the shortstop. Next batter, Weosloski lofted a single to right field that advanced Eiland to third.
Grace Usher hit a single through the left side to bring home Eiland for the first run of the game. Purdue Northwest would bring across four runs in the top of the third to take a 4-1 lead. GVSU quickly answered with two runs in the bottom half to make it a 4-3 ballgame.
Camryn Hall led the inning with a walk followed by an Edwards single and wild pitch to put runners on second and third with no outs. Eiland brough home a run with an RBI goundout to the shortstop. Next battter, Usher hit a single up the middle to bring home Edwards from second for her second RBI of the game. PNW would hit two solo home runs in the fifth inning to go up 6-3 and would keep GVSU off the scoreboard to secure the three-run win.
Grace Usher batted 2-4 with two RBI, while
Faith Edwards and
Elizabeth Wesoloski each notched two hits with Edwards adding a run scored.
Eliana Eiland and
Carsyn Segorski each recorded a hit. Freshman pitcher
Lainey Cannon tossed 1.1 innings of relief allowing one run, while freshman
Allison Wright tossed two inniings in relief allowing one run.
