ALLENDALE - The Grand Valley State softball team closed out the regular season with a doubleheader split vs Purdue Northwest Saturday (May 2) afternoon at the GVSU Softball Field. The Lakers dropped game one 3-1 before winning game two 5-3 to move to 27-23 overall and 17-11 in the GLIAC.
In game one, Purdue Northwest opened the scoring in the top of the first inning off a Laker error. GVSU would tie the game at one in the fourth inning.
Eliana Eiland led the inning off with a double to right field. Next batter,
Grace Usher singled up the middle to score Eiland from second base. Purdue Northwest would retake the lead in the sixth inning with two runs to make it 3-1. The Pride took a 2-1 lead on a sacrifice bunt and followed it with an RBI single through the left side later in the inning.
Eliana Eiland notched two hits including a double and run scored.
Karli Dorr got the start in the circle and tossed all seven innings striking out seven Pride batters.
In game two, Purdue Northwest would again score in the opening inning to take an early 1-0 lead on an RBI ground out. GVSU would tie the game at one in the second inning on a sacrifice fly to center field by
Jasmine Mauk to score
MaryJane Goodman. The Lakers would take their first lead of the game in the third inning off an RBI ground out to first base by
Grace Usher that allowed Eiland to score from third. GVSU would add to the lead with a three-run fourth inning to go ahead 5-3. Mauk singled to center field to bring home the pinch runner
Carsyn Segorski from second. Later in the inning,
Camryn Hall singled up the middle to make it 5-3, bringing home
Kenedy Coombe and Mauk.Â
Nevaeh Ingram got the start in game two and earned the win after tossing all seven innings allowing three runs off eight hits with one strikeout.
Camryn Hall notched two hits and drove in two runs, while
MaryJane Goodman had two hits and scored one run.
Jasmine Mauk batted a perfect 2-2 with two runs batted in and a run scored.
Eliana Eiland and
Grace Usher each added a hit.Â
