Lakers Set to Play in GLIAC Tournament Thursday

CROWN POINT, Ind. - The Grand Valley State softball team begins postseason play in the GLIAC tournament beginning Thursday, May 7th. The Lakers will face Davenport in the opening round on Thursday at 2:30 PM ET, 1:30 PM CT at Crown Point Sportsplex in Crown Point, Indiana.

The Lakers enter postseason play with a 27-23 overall record. GVSU finished in third place in the GLIAC standings with a 17-11 mark. The Lakers are making their 40th appearance in the GLIAC tournament and have compiled a 92-67 overall record with eight tournament championships. This will be the fifth time GVSU will face Davenport in the GLIAC tournament. GVSU is 4-0 all-time against the Panthers in GLIAC tournament history with the last meeting coming in 2023. Davenport finished in sixth place in the GLIAC standings with a 12-18 conference mark. The Lakers won three out of the four games against the Panthers this season. 

Freshman Camryn Hall leads GVSU and ranks third in the GLIAC with a .432 batting average. Hall notched a GLIAC leading 70 hits with 38 runs scored, 19 RBI, and seven doubles in the regular season. Sophomore Grace Usher hit .340 in the regular season and led the team with 35 RBI and three home runs. Usher has posted 55 hits, 20 runs scored, and four doubles on the season. Senior Eliana Eiland is hitting .329 on the season with 47 hits, 24 runs scored, and 22 RBI. Eiland leads the team with four triples and is second with seven stolen bases. Faith Edwards leads the Lakers with 10 doubles and is hitting .315 with 45 hits and 30 runs scored. Edwards also leads the Lakers with 25 walks. The Laker pitching staff has posted a 3.13 team ERA which ranks second in the GLIAC. Sophomore Karli Dorr leads the Laker pitching staff with a 2.26 ERA and 11-5 record. Dorr has struck out 117 batters this season and tossed her first collegiate no-hitter in the game one home win over Parkside. Junior Kylie Swierkos has earned six wins in the circle for GVSU this season with a 3.04 ERA in 14 appearances.
